lunatics
This post is a review of my recent hobby research project on Github, regarding the increase in of the number of messages exchanged on Facebook (or any social platform) during full moons.
Analyzing my personal, more than 1M+ messages from the last 15 years, what I’ve found is that I’m likely to send/receive twice as many messages on the days surrounding the full moon, than any other day/moon phases.
What is happening?
I don’t think the modern science we collectively accept today can answer this question. The best chance for finding an answer to this phenomenon would probably be through exploring spirituality. Heck, even astrology if we want to go down that route.
According to their (my) views, the moon and other planets have the capability to influence our emotional states, which can be both a positive and a negative effect depending on how we handle it. While I end up with a lot of neurotic people, breaking week-long silences and messaging me on full moons, the raising of our consciousness can also be accelerated at times like this, since many spiritual events that I’ve watched or attended were held during full moons.
I’m not exactly sure what kind of qualities the full moon can bring out, or whether they are consistent qualities (the emerging of the same emotional states every month) or not. I always felt more energetic during full moons, the body needed less resting, I was more stable emotionally. Other people will look at these qualities as problems, because they can’t fall asleep when they planned to do so, they become more insensitive and fall into extremes to get rid of their excessive energy.
According to Sadhguru, the full moon heightens who you are. If we are a little insane, we become a little more insane, hence the word ‘lunatic’.
I might update this post as I have more time and motivation to share these insights with the internet.
